Poem, Poetry

Ben Banyard

On Waking

If this is dawn
let me hear birdsong,

celebration after the long,
dark, fitful night.

If this is morning
let me see sunlight

bleeding warm and bright
below the curtains.

If this is farewell,
let me close my eyes,

whisper last goodbyes,
remember once upon a time.
